HARVEST FEST ’10   Close out the season with a bang: food, families, fun, and fabulous music by Trio Geo and Side Car a Go Go. Bring a potluck dish and enjoy the cooking of others. Saturday, Oct. 2nd, 2PM (rain: Sun, Oct. 3)

”9/11”  Alex Harsley, photographer,  LES gallery operator, NYC underground mover&shaker, brings his many talents to “9/11”, a work 7 years in the making. His “9/11” video merges reality, history, and artistic interpretation into a work that challenges us to re-evaluate the information we have received.. Alex will be on hand to answer questions. Parental discretion advised. Saturday, October 9th, 2 & 4PM showings

AN AUTUMN AFTERNOON OF MUSIC Original riffs from local (and maybe distant) singers/songwriters. Coordinated by Joff Wilson. Saturday, October 16th, 3PM

General Membership Meeting  Sunday, Oct. 24th, 4PM

PUMPKIN CARVING  Create a pumpkin that’s scary, wary, or merry. Kid-safe knives available. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Thursday, Oct 28th, 5PM (rain: Oct. 29)

PROJECT ONE ROOM environmental workshop. Join us in this two-day workshop where you will get creative while you recycle and rethink the meaning of waste. To bring with you: a recycled piece of cardboard, 2’X2’. First part: Saturday. September 11, 2-4PM; Second part, Saturday, September 18th, 2-4PM. For the best results, attend both sessions.

WMD’s – The not-so-secret Weapons for Mass Developments, 1-0-1, a transformational video arts presentation in composition with live music and poetry, presented by the NuMuse Gallery, Friday, September 18th, 5PM

M’BIRA WORKSHOP. Learn to play the African thumb piano. Coordinated by Alex Coleman. Sunday, September 19th, 3-5PM

CITY ROSES: The Manhattan Chapter of the N. American Rock Garden Society meeting features a slide presentation by Anne O'Neill, Curator at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. Learn about roses that are agreeable in small spaces, beautiful through the seasons, and don't require a chemical arsenal. Rock garden plants will be for sale. Monday, September 20th, 6PM

CLAY WORKSHOP  Effie Serlis leads a class in working with clay. Kids under 7 must be accompanied by an adult. Sunday, September 26th,  11-1PM

COMPOSTING Join the NYC Compost Project in Manhattan of the Lower East Side Ecology Center at this well-known East Village Garden to see one of the NYC Compost Project's Demo Sites and ask your composting questions. There will also be an example of an indoor worm composting bin. Tues., July 20th 6-8PM

TIMBILA blazes ecstatic African rock with an East Village edge. The surreal buzzing beauty of timbila (Chopi xylophone, Mozambique) and hypnotic dream melodies of mbira (Shona thumb piano, Zimbabwe) soar with grooves that are deeply funky, fierce and danceable. EURIPIDES MEDEA by Xoregos Performing Company Centuries ahead of his time, Euripides wrote what is certainly the first extant feminist play. A Chorus of women supports Medea's anger against Jason, who has left her to marry another. Only when her fury loses reason do they abandon her.  Medea, obsessed with Jason, determines on a terrifying revenge. CLAY ANIMAL WORKSHOP: wild beasts   Effie Serlis will lead a workshop in creating a wild beast from air-drying clay:  a giraffe, a lion or a zebra. Please show up to discover which wild animal you will be working on. Open to children and adults. Children under seven year-old must be accompanied by an adult. Sat., June 5th, 11AM – 1PM

FLAMENCO PARTY! With the East Village Kids Flamenco Co. y profesora Maya de Silva. Kids perform Andalusian flamenco dances – sevillanas, tangos, rumbas, & alegrias. Sun. June 6th, 5PM

ACTION RACKET THEATRE Mighty Action Racket Theatre Intergenerational Workshop takes young actors and their parents or caretakers on an awesome, self-empowering theatrical adventure. Racing through a menu of voice and movement skills, actors write lines, learn choral actions and become collaborators in an instant theatre company. Each session includes a short performance.
