SEPTEMBER 7: JAZZ NIGHT with Artemis collective pre launch party with Gitesha and Sarah James poetry and muse. Bring your instrument, vox, and energy. Celebrate Oshun's birthday and Gitesha's belated. 6:30 to 9:30 pm.
SEPTEMBER 12: "Dreaming in America - The Path Back" Historical retrospective of events which occurred over the past 24 years. An award winning video feature by Alex Harsley. The film was edited over the past 20 years, based on film clips, and news reels, and written onto a DVD.

SEPTEMBER 13: SCIENCE IN AND BEYOND THE CITY 7:30 to 10:00 pm
Students from the Berkov tropical ecology lab at City College of New York are studying biodiversity-- from lush Neotropical rain forests to the out-of-the-way nooks and crannies of our own Central Park. Lin Li will discuss how beetle communities are affected by forest condition, Bridget Schaper will discuss how beetles deter their predators by mimicking more dangerous insects, and Jhunior Morillo will discuss how insects thrive in the habitat islands of urban parks.
SEPTEMBER 14: CALLIGRAPHY WORKSHOP with Mitra Dejkameh 4:00 to 5:00pm
Learn about the beautiful tradition of Persian (Dari), Urdu, Turkish, and Arabic calligraphy styles. Participants will then practice strokes, letters, and techniques using some of the oldest calligraphy tools in the world, including the reed and bamboo pen.

SEPTEMBER 21:FILMS OF MM SERRA. MM Serra is an experimental filmmaker, curator, author and the Executive Director of the Film-Makers' Cooperative. Titillating, sumptuous and always subversive, Serra's films focus on alternative cultures and intimate moments. They are simultaneously eye-opening and awe-inducing. 7:00 to 10:00pm

August 8: Movie Night: Films by JIMMY DOUGHERTY. Feature is "THE PARTY"-Lower East Side Mayhem discovers the "Everyman" candidate. Plus shorts of the 6&B in years past.

August 9: BILL POPP AND THE TAPES, upbeat Rock, back by popular demand, to dance for!

August 10: MAKE YOUR OWN STEAMBOATS with Science Artist REBECCA MALDONADO. Learn how steamboats work and make one to take home. Children must be accompanied by an adult. 2:00 to 4:30 pm.
August 12: SHRUNKEN HEADS WORKSHOP with CONNIE BERRY and AMY BERKOV. Brought back from the 80's by popular demand. Use your imagination on this one. 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
August 15: MUSIC UNDER THE STARS A star-studded night of musical singers, songwriters, and bands from L.E.S/East Village stages, clubs, and performance venues. Breathtaking artistry. Do not miss it. 7:00 to 10:00pm.

August 17: DRAWING IN THE GARDEN WITH A MODEL This event has become so beloved that we've decided to supply basic art materials to those who want to drop by (but best to bring your own)! Artists of all skills and interests get a rare chance. 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
August 22: SOUNDS IN THE GARDEN An eclectic mix of music with songwriters and performers from acoustic blues to ambient electronica. Come see a fabulous line-up.

August 24: Garden Membership Meeting 4:00 pm
August 24: PAPER TIGER FILMS: A NY media collective that has been creating fun, funky, hard-hitting, investigative, compelling and truly alternative media since 1981. Come to a screening of El Taller, which tells the story of El Taller Latino Americano, a cultural center that brings New York's diverse community together through music, dance and conversation. As the center reaches its 35 year anniversary, it faces the challenge of gentrification and possible displacement after years of being an
oasis for the community in the Upper West Side.

Sunday, July 13, 2:30 to 5:00 PM TANABATA FESTIVAL The festival originates in the legend of the Cow Herd Star and the Weaver Star, lovers separated by the Milky Way, allowed to meet once a year. Write wishes on colorful strips of paper and hang them in our bamboo trees, along with festive origami and kirigami ornaments. (A teaching workshop for origami and kirigami!)

Saturday, July 19, 8:30 to 11:00 PM MOVIE NIGHT with OZONE, a feature by Jimmy Dougherty & selected shorts. Ozone is a dark comedy of high jinks about Jack, a dancing dog biscuit in a trade show who dreams of playing Hamlet in NYC. He returns to his old neighborhood to find that time has stood still. Voodoo and mayhem follow, interspersed with lots of laughs, featuring a host of characters from the Lower East Side and beyond.
